Preparing your Troupe

So you bought the “Gnomes: The Skirmish Game” core set, but what now?

The following instructional article assumes that this is not your first time putting miniatures together. If this is your first time and you quickly want to get into playing the game you can download and print out some paper Gnomes for playing with straight away while you get your Gnomes gaming ready. You can find the paper Gnomes over on the Campaigns & Downloads page, here!

Once you have you have opened your set you will notice there are 2 different coloured sets of Gnomes. They may be Yellow, Blue, Green, White or Grey. However, you will have two duplicate sets in two different colours. We try to make sure that our Gnome miniatures are up to quality, but if they are not and we’ve missed out you need to let us know as soon as possible so we can help us sort out the problem together.

Cleaning up the Gnomes

You may choose to either leave your Gnomes in the colours they came in to clearly differentiate the teams, or even paint the Gnomes in the colours of your chosen Gnomish Hold. Either way these steps will help you get them ready.

Our Gnomes are currently cast in polyurethane resin and as such there may be a small amount of mould lines or flashing that needs to be cleaned up. One of the first things to do is inspect the miniature and using the back (or front) edge of a hobby knife you will need to run it along the seam carefully to remove the flash or slight mould lines. Once you have done this you can use a soft bristled brush (like an old tooth brush) to brush off the remaining material. If you want to go further you can use a small metal file of fine sanding stick to remove any remaining blemishes. Make sure that when you are doing this you wear a dust mask (and optionally some nitrile or rubber gloves to protect your hands) to avoid inhaling any fine particulates.

Once you are done you may want to wash the miniatures in some warm soapy water giving them a bit of a brush, and then rinse them off before drying. Once the miniatures are all dry you can now glue them down to their bases to play with or to get ready to undercoat for painting. We won’t cover the details of painting a Gnome here, but you will be able to find a painting guide over on the painting Gnomes page once we have made the tutorial and uploaded it.
